College Station craigslist sucks. Few manuals for sale and the ones that have a standard are either trucks or overpriced.
You could get this "lovely" '95 Mustang GT for 5k http://collegestation.craigslist.org/cto/4292716693
Here's a "Rally" edition '03 FWD Lancer for just under 5k, comes with rice included, but does include a 5 spd http://collegestation.craigslist.org/cto/4288051300
This list wouldn't be complete with yet another mustang, so here's a '00 Mustang V6 with a 5 speed, 172 thousand miles, mild rice, for $4200. http://collegestation.craigslist.org/cto/4229223409

That is a cheap turbo, but that body, holy fuck what in the hell happened?! Especially considering that interior looks perfect, I don't see any dash cracks. Honestly if the engine and turbo are sound, that is a hell of a deal, even with the body work, get those dents out and do a respray to Guards Red, probably a good 7 grand, you are still on top.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:11 |

I bought this on craigslist for 2,000. It made the 200 mile drive home so I guess you could drive it to work. Misfiring in 2 cylinders and only has 3rd gear but it'll take you to work and back. It's jalop due to it being a Swedish/Japanese/American hatch. Sadly it is an auto though.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:11 |
|
I'm thinking it slid down an icy hill and hit other cars at the bottom, then other cars hit it afterwards. Even if you already have a Turbo you could take the engine, and like you said, fixing it up wouldn't be too costly.

Yeah, because those dents look strangely uniform, kind of looks cool in a weird way. I would say just replace the fenders because it would be cheaper, people sell those all the time on the cheap. Now those ass dents, probably would have to pull them, Porsche was smart with the sectioning of these cars, but replacing those would probably be too costly, so say, 3k for an authentic Porsche Guards Red spray, about 500 for the fenders (for the smart CL shopper), and lets say, 1,500 to pop out those ass dents?
Or even at that price, pick it up, and since the interior looks great, part that thing out, if everything in the interior is in good shape and nothing is broken, you could easily make 3k probably. The engine, with 83k miles, with the turbo could probably make another 3, easily, keep the transmission and torque tube, use that money and drop in an LS1 in it, buy a good sport seat and roll cage, and you've got yourself a track beast!
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:19 |
|
If you part out the engine and such, You might not even need to repair/respray if you're tracking/autocrossing it!
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:21 |
|
Yeah I edited my post because I got even better ideas, but yeah forget the dent repair and respray, spend the money on a fiberglass hatch, and an LS1 along with the custom bellhousing/friction disc, and boom! Pulling probably 350hp, and still keeping the balance! I've done a bunch of research on it, and those aluminum LS1's are actually lighter then the cast iron 4 bangers in the 944
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:22 |

Man, no wonder everyone loves LS motors, they're amazing! You should come to my Craigslist region and buy all of these 944s.

Shit, if I had the money I would, restore them up on the cheap and sell them off, but I already have one problem child that I'm working on, and that happens to be my 86 944 that decided it needed a new clutch.
And yeah, those things are awesome, I plan on putting an LS in mine when my engine goes kaput, but it only has 137,000 miles so it wont be for a while

Yeah, I mean you never know, these are interference engines. The person I bought it from didn't take care of it, I'm redoing all the brakes, brake lines, clutch, gotta do the timing belt, need to redo my power steering system, it leaks like a stuck pig. And the interior is pretty much destroyed, but god damnit, it is the most fun I've ever had driving.

Yeah, especially cars that are worth saving. Like I took off the fuel filter, it was stamped 1995, and this was 2013 I took it off. You are supposed to change them every 2 years. But, in doing all of this I am learning, never rebuilt brakes before, or did a clutch change, also taught me about safety, I dropped the rear suspension and it almost cut my hand off, so there's that too. Plus it just makes it so much sweeter once it's done, another few weeks, of painting and letting it cure, and it's all going back together. Throw on some new 225/17's and go ape shit
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:40 |

Nothing says "GET OUT OF MY WAY, PEASANTS!" like a '70s S-Class.
Original owner GS-R sedan with original Cali plates. Given the dates/times it was probably a very early delivery. This is probably the best way to get in on the Integra scene.
Yank the flares and this is good to go.
Probably something about to go catastrophically wrong, but parting it out would make up for it.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:42 |

Anyone can do it man. The thing that GREATLY motivated me to do it all myself, was the fact that I was quoted 2700 fucking dollars to do the clutch. I paid 2900 for the car! Do you work on your cars at all?
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:43 |

No, but that's mainly because I don't have a car.

Ah, well hell, whenever you get the spare money to, pick up a 200 piece Craftsman tool set (Craftsman cause lifetime warranty if anything breaks) and go help friends and family work on their cars, you've got the internet, that's all you need, so whenever you do have your car, you are good to go, save a ton of money. There is literally nothing to it, 95% of working on a car is figuring out what is wrong, and how to take it out/put it back in. I've spend more time in preparation then actual working.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 13:49 |
|
You're right, the internet gives you everything in terms of info on how to fix cars. It's amazing. I watched a dude change spark plugs on an E92 BMW, it was fairly straightforward considering the brand and its complexity. So much knowledge if you know where to find it.

I wouldn't say everything everything, but like 99% of stuff yeah. And you would be surprised, like the 944, it's transmission is in the back, which is really uncommon. I have an 86 Honda Accord, the air filter is on the back of the engine, my Chrysler 300, for starters it has 2 spark plugs per cylinder (to cut down on misfiring), but in order to get the last 2 plugs you need to remove the intake manifold. Every car has it's own little quirks as to what is really easy, really hard, and just fucking annoying. It also helps that pretty much every single car model ever made, there is an internet forum for it. But yeah man, just try to suck up as much information as possible. Haynes manuals help a lot too, the one for my Honda shows me how to completely rebuild the car top to bottom, including rebuilding the transmission.
What car are you eying to own in the near future?
![]() 02/06/2014 at 14:08 |

Car forums are probably the coolest things on the internet. For every car, from brand new Astons to 30 year old Fords. All full of people willing to help. My dad won't let me buy used (WHY CAN'T I HAVE A PHAETON!) but it's probably for the best. Fiesta ST is what I'm thinking. I've already done a ton of research and watched a bunch of videos and such. I want to keep that car for as long as possible.

Many of the good ones from NYC have already been posted, including a sweet W124 400E, and the BMW sharknose 633csi. There are any number of Miatas, E46s, Quattros, etc., so my criteria here is either obscure, or totally badass (and manual, of course).
Obscure? How about a Subaru SVX with a 5-speed swap:

Yeah it is pretty awesome, some are hit and miss though, and full of douchebags, so just use your best judgement. And why won't he let you buy used? Used is the best! I have yet to buy a brand new car, I would love to, and if you have the opportunity definitely go for it. But an old school 80's sports car, that shit is just awesome. Fiesta ST isn't a bad car, you looked at the Focus ST's as well? Those things are monsters, pushing almost 300 hp. Make sure when you get your car you keep all of your paperwork in a binder. EVERYTHING, any time you buy any part that goes on the car, keep the invoice, every single oil change, inspection, all that, keep it all, it's great reference material in case you need it, and when it comes to selling it, it really helps you prove that you have a well kept quality vehicle. You should see my maintenance book for my Porsche, bought sooooo many parts, and work I've done. Like I even record when I put on my headlight relays, down to day/month/year and mileage. But I am just very very meticulous when it comes to cars
![]() 02/06/2014 at 15:47 |
|
My dad is very scared about buying used because of a bad experience he had with a CPO C-Class, but that's a story for another time. I was planning on putting everything in a binder. It's the best way of keeping track of everything. The reason I chose the Fiesta over the Focus was because I like the looks a lot better, and it's smaller so it's easier to use overall while I'm in college. It's also going to be my first manual car, so I think it's a good starter.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 15:58 |
|
Yeah a Fiesta is a pretty good little starter car. And yeah, you really have to be careful buying used, I've bought 2 cars of CL and gotten screwed off both, always get a full on inspection, it'll run you about 120 bucks or so, but always get it. But yeah, just keep everything in a binder, and what I do, I have a flash drive with all of my car binders, that if I do my own work, I take pictures of the build, before, during, and after shots, and name them accordingly along with the date, so that there are pictures of it for a potential buyer. But don't be scared of used man, just be smart, some cars you can only get used now, like a 240Z, or a Supra, and those cars are beyond fun.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 16:01 |
|
I know, there are so many cars that I'd probably rather spend my money on (because it wouldn't be as expensive as a new car) and that I can work on more myself. But I hear the Fiesta ST is a really good car, so I'm not complaining too much.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 16:02 |
|
A new car always beats out a used car, because of a warranty, and because your the first owner. For a good 3 or 4 years you won't have to worry about a single thing, just make sure you keep up on your oil changes every 3k miles, or they will void your warranty and refuse to fix your car.
![]() 02/06/2014 at 16:07 |

Good stuff man, make sure you pick up a repair manual as well, and always keep an open mind, even a new car will surprise you with random crap. I've driven a car in the morning to come out after work to find out my starter blew, or I now have a misfire.
